OVERVIEW

Join Hella for this four-day retreat and find a sense of ease in the African bush.

Mindfulness is not about getting anywhere else but rather about practicing moment-to-moment non-judgemental awareness, and learning the beauty of staying in the present.

We will cultivate these skills during group sessions, gentle yoga movements and various meditation practices, some of them in the midst of the nature around Nambwa. All awareness sessions will be woven carefully into your days in the bush to allow for sufficient time to rejuvenate, reflect and simply enjoy the bush during long siestas.

Any of these practices of compassionate self-awareness and loving kindness towards yourself can easily be integrated into your daily life and will continue to provide you with a sense of ease at any given moment.

“Mindfulness is about love and loving life. When you cultivate this love, it gives you clarity and compassion for life, and your actions happen in accordance with that.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn

ALL RETREATS INCLUDE
  • Accommodation at Nambwa Tented Lodge. These luxurious suites are nestled high amongst the tree canopies. The luxurious suites emanate a sense of serenity and allow each of us some privacy and comfort for the duration of our time together.
  • Morning or afternoon game drives. Discover the unknown along meandering tracks within the Bwabwata National Park, ideally located within the largest conservation area in Africa. Our guides find the perfect spot to disembark and set up the morning coffee or sundowner refreshments in true legendary African Monarch Lodges style.
  • Morning or afternoon boat cruise. Our guides will steer you past varied landscapes of papyrus islands and reed floodplains and get within a respectful distance of hippos, crocodiles, other mammals, and the varied bird species this area is known for. This informative, yet soulful experience on the Kwando Rivers’ waterways is similar to that of the Okavango Delta.
  • Bush walks. An incredible way to experience the bush in a more personal and energetic way. Our local guides take great delight in sharing their ancestral repertoire of medicinal uses of the flora along the way and their tales of the wild and their upbringing in this area. It is an experience that connects and grounds us to the earth.
  • Sundowner setup at the famous Horseshoe Lagoon, served with fresh, homemade, healthy fruit snacks whilst sitting barefoot in the sand soaking up breathtaking sunsets alongside hippos and herds of elephants.
  • Bush dinner on a private island. There is nothing quite like savouring a meal in the serenity of nature with a symphony of night sounds while breathing in the earth, the trees and the energy of a warming fire.
  • Expressive art experience at The Sijwa Project

HELLA GöBEL

Meet Your Facilitator

Namibian born and MBSR*-trained in Germany, Hella started her own “coming-to-life” journey at Nambwa Tented Lodge during a healing retreat in 2021, after her repeated cancer diagnosis.

Understanding a personal crisis as an opportunity, Hella turned her life around with great courage and started her exploration into the depths of mindfulness and stress reduction. She is passionate about the interconnectedness between body, mind and soul.

Hella’s close connection to nature in combination with her enthusiasm for the art of mindfulness will inspire those who want to bring some ease into their hectic daily lives; who want to reconnect, find clarity and inner peace. She is an inspiration to those who have lost faith and confidence in their own lives for a moment, or who simply want to learn easy-to-integrate techniques of coping with the stressors of our modern society.

Her methods are aligned with the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program as developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and include meditation, easy yoga movements, mindful walks, and other techniques to reconnect with your own body.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS
  • Do I Need To Have Experience in Meditation or Yoga For the Art of Mindfulness Retreat?

No experience is necessary. All exercises will be very simple and easy. The yoga moves will support the art of mindfulness rather than the exercise aspect.

  • Do I Need To Be Able to Walk Long Distances?

Any walks are easy and no particular level of fitness is required.

  • What Kind of Yoga Equipment Do I Need to Bring?

There is no need to bring a yoga mat or yoga cushions. These will be provided by the lodge. Please bring comfortable and light clothes in which you can sit in meditation for up to 45 minutes and allow for easy body movements.

  • Is Mindfulness Based on Any Religion?

No, not at all. While MBSR has its roots in Buddhist teachings, the programme itself is secular.

  • In What Language Will the Mindfulness Retreat Be Held?

The retreat will be offered in German.
