    Kazile Island Lodge

Kazile Island Lodge is situated on a private island on the banks of the Kwando River, within the heart of KAZA. Kazile, together with its sister lodge, Nambwa, are the only lodges uniquely situated within the Bwabwata National Park. Kazile Island is a special paradise that can only be reached by boat. Here, herds of buffalo and elephants traverse the wet Zambezi landscape. Sitatunga, an elusive aquatic antelope, are often spotted along the floodplains and marshes.

    WHY WE RECOMMEND THIS ITINERARY

Balance unforgettable travel experiences with conservation, community, culture and commerce

    • The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust advances and promotes environmental conservation and the sustainable use of indigenous resources in Southern Africa through rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife research, wildlife disease and forensics laboratory, and community outreach.
    • The conservation safari aims to raise awareness of the wildlife conservation efforts that are taking place behind the scenes in the Zambezi National Park.
    • The Sijwa Project has a broad vision of empowering the local community by creating jobs, preserving traditional knowledge, teaching skills and conserving the surrounding environment.
    FREQUENT QUESTIONS
    • What is the Sijwa Project?

The Sijwa Project is a community project created by African Monarch Lodges as part of their continued endeavour to create a sustainable tourism brand and to give back to the community in which they operate. It is the re-purposing and re-invention of all recyclable waste from African Monarch Lodges and from the local community into exquisite, saleable craft and art. It is here where guests will be entertained and enriched with local culture and can interact with local communities while they practise the artisan skills taught at the project. Sijwa is a holistic balance between conservation, community, culture and commerce.

    • How involved will we be in local projects on this tour?

Days are planned with a mixture of sightseeing, safari and interactive experiences.

    • What vaccinations are needed to enter Zimbabwe or Namibia other than COVID?

There are no other vaccination requirements unless you are arriving from a country with a yellow fever risk. Then, you would need a yellow fever vaccination certificate. All other vaccinations are a personal choice. Malaria is prevalent in both areas, and taking malaria prophylactics is highly recommended.

    • What makes my lodge in Victoria Falls sustainable?

The Wallow is operated and owned by Wild Horizons, which represents the sharp edge of transformative, sustainable travel that demonstrates the value of protected wilderness areas. Sustainable technology such as solar power, environmentally friendly decking, and non-disposable products ensure that every journey leaves a light footprint on the land. At the same time, the activities they operate, create synergy between guests and the environment. For example, guests are invited to tour the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, located in the Wild Horizons Wildlife Sanctuary. This gives them an insider’s perspective on the innovative conservation initiatives that help mitigate human-wildlife conflict, further our knowledge of keystone species, and safely rehabilitate injured wildlife.
