Nestled in the unspoiled bush of the Sabi Sand in the Greater Kruger National Park lies a stylishly intimate game lodge – Chitwa Chitwa. Originally a private family retreat, Chitwa enjoys a place of pride on the banks of a waterhole, attracting a variety of animals. Relax in a haven of natural colours and beautiful textures that replicate the beauty of nature’s paintbrush and the serenity of the African bush. Each of the eight individually decorated retreats boasts a private plunge pool, framed by a spacious timber deck overlooking the waterhole – a popular drinking spot for a wealth of wildlife.
Upstream from the spectacular Victoria Falls in the Zambezi National Park lies a pristine piece of land on the banks of the Zambezi River. The untouched natural beauty of the park is sprawled over 56,000 breathtaking hectares. Old Drift Lodge offers family-friendly accommodation, with each air-conditioned suite decorated with stylish furnishings that are fitting of bygone eras, seamlessly blending in with the natural environment. The spacious canvas ensuite rooms all have a private lounge, indoor and outdoor showers, a plunge pool and an outdoor bath overlooking the Zambezi.
Nambwa Tented Lodge is uniquely situated inside the Bwabwata National Park in the heart of KAZA, nestled high amongst majestic trees, honouring the elephants’ right of way below. An authentic walkway joins decadently spacious tented suites, which emanate a feeling of vastness, and evoke a gentle balance of serenity. Here, you can enjoy memorable African experiences on foot, by boat or vehicle, up close and personal with some of the biggest herds of elephants. Soak up the breathtaking sunsets over the infamous Horseshoe Lagoon with animals silhouetted in purple hues over the water.
All three destinations are considered “year-round” destinations, as each time of the year has a different appeal. Victoria Falls can be very hot and humid in October. The main rainy season for all three regions is between November and February, but even this period, which is known as the “green season,” is a wonderful time to visit. In the Victoria Falls area, the ‘low water’ period runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. The best view of the falls at this time will be Devil’s Cataract, which is permanent and on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls.
The ‘Big Five’ is a term that was coined during the era of big game hunting in Africa. It was used to describe the most dangerous animals to encounter in the bush and includes elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. The Kruger National park area is one of few national parks in Africa where regular sightings of the Big Five are possible.
All locations on this tour are considered malaria areas, and we advise the use of anti-malarial prophylactics year-round. Consult your travel doctor for advice at least three weeks before departure to Africa.
