A stay at Old Drift Lodge near Victoria Falls is a perfect blend of adventure, luxury, and nature, making it an ideal choice for travellers seeking an authentic African safari experience with all the comforts of a high-end lodge. Upstream of the iconic Victoria Falls, on the banks of the Zambezi River, lies Old Drift Lodge. The lodge boasts luxury accommodation overlooking the pristine Zambezi National Park, a mere 7 kilometres from the mighty Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Old Drift Lodge is nestled within a wild paradise frequented by elephants, buffalo, herds of sable, elands, zebras, giraffes, kudus, waterbucks and impalas.
Ngoma Safari Lodge is located in the Chobe Forest Reserve in Western Botswana, on the edge of a plateau, offering endless views over the seasonal Chobe flood plain. It also bears witness to magnificent sunsets, the ultimate way to celebrate the end of another perfect African day. Made from local materials and designed to blend into the natural surroundings, Ngoma Safari Lodge is an intimate bolthole located in a private oasis. Perched on the edge of a plateau overlooking the Chobe flood plain, the lodge’s central guest area is flanked by a collection of suites that offer guests privacy, luxury and panoramic views.
Nambwa Tented Lodge is uniquely situated inside the Bwabwata National Park in the heart of KAZA, nestled high amongst majestic trees, honouring the elephants’ right of way below. An authentic walkway joins decadently spacious tented suites, which emanate a feeling of vastness and evoke a gentle balance of serenity. Here, you can enjoy memorable African experiences on foot, by boat or vehicle, and up close and personal with some of the biggest herds of elephants. Soak up the breathtaking sunsets over the infamous Horseshoe Lagoon with animals silhouetted in purple hues over the water.
Customisation is possible in that the tour can be booked in the reverse order, starting in Namibia. The length of stays in each area can easily be extended or reduced. The order of the destinations will need to remain the same. In the reverse order, the trip would be a perfect addition to the end of a Namibian circuit.
Victoria Falls can be very hot and humid in October. The main rainy season for all three regions is between November and February, but even this period, which is known as the “green season,” is a wonderful time to visit. In the Victoria Falls area, the ‘low water’ period runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. The best view of the falls at this time will be Devil’s Cataract, which is permanent, and on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls.
African Monarch Lodges love hosting young ones at Nambwa Tented Lodge. A Junior Ranger mini-course is offered during scheduled dates, and for the balance of the year, no set program is offered. However, there will be a range of great activities to keep young guests fully entertained during their stay. Additionally, Chobe and Victoria Falls are very family-friendly destinations with lots on offer for little ones. Old Drift has 2-bedroom family suites, which can be booked and accepts children of all ages. Ngoma Lodge accepts children 10 years and above only. Properties can be swapped out if younger children need to be accommodated.
When packing for a safari holiday, less is always more. The good news here is that there are no scheduled charter flights in this itinerary, and that all transfers are by road. The usual restrictions for luggage type and weight therefore do not apply.
